Build The Perfect Bug Out Bag Book Review
I just finished reading Build the Perfect Bug Out Bag: Your 72-Hour Disaster Survival Kit by Creek Stewart and thought this was worthy of a book review.
The book is well written and full of good information on building a comprehensive Bug Out Bag (B.O.B.). This isn’t a guide for building a casual bag by any means, all the needs of a good B.O.B. are addressed with a chapter dedicated to each item/need.
What I liked.
I really enjoyed the format of this book. With each item or need receiving it’s own chapter I didn’t feel like any stone was unturned. I especially liked how the author gave several price points for gear that needs to be purchased, sometimes when reading on prepper/disaster readiness topics it feels like most authors have a trust fund. By acknowledging that this stuff can be expensive the author won my over. This book also brought to light a few items I’d like to add to my own kit, a shemaugh is calling my name.
What I didn’t like.
The only real problem I had with this book is with the Survival Quick Tips scattered throughout the book. They are excellent and need to be expanded on with a few more high quality photos to flesh out the concepts.
Final Thoughts
All in all I thoroughly enjoyed this book and think it belongs on any prepper/survivalists bookshelf. The author Creek Stewart runs Willow Haven Outdoors and his website is definitely worth a look too. This book is the kick in the pants I needed to assemble a good high quality B.O.B. and to upgrade my everyday Get Home Bag.

Would you say this books is more of a “Howto” or reference material?
Mike says
Good question! I would classify it as a reference book. It gives good advice on what goes into a B.O.B. and why, but you would need to add the skills to the advice.

I really liked John D. McCann’s book Build the Perfect Survival Kit. How would you compare that book to this one?
Mike says
Mil, I haven’t read that one. I’ll have to check it out.

Thanks for stopping by! I really enjoyed your book and found it to be very useful. I’ll be putting together my own BOB soon using the principles you put forth.
