With my house all ripped apart and still having some camera issues I was at a little bit of a loss for a blog this evening. I’ve been kicking this one around in my head since a conversation at work a few weeks ago so I figured I’d give it a shot.
We were sitting in the ready room waiting for the boss to come down with the days work. Our morning talk for some reason turned to wedding rings and who wears them to work. It is a bit of a safety issue for Linemen to wear a ring while working, heavy equipment and jewelry just don’t always get along. For the record I wear my wedding ring everyday, all day. It only comes off after eating Mexican take out, when my ring finger swells a bit from all the salt and an old football injury (I had to throw that in). I sat there listening to all the banter and it took me back to the days of Cancer and my first wife. I know having been a Widower so young I’ve got a bit of an Old Man’s perspective on things. I think all the cool guy bluster of “I’m not wearing a ring for safety issues (wink, wink)” goes out the window when you’ve sat in the big chair up by the coffin. Now that I’m very happily re-married I find great comfort in the simple act of devotion of wearing my ring. So I can basically sum up my thoughts on the subject by saying that if I’m ever lying on the ground at the base of a pole looking up at my finger hanging off of a nail with my wedding band glinting in the sun, my only thought will be that she is worth it.

Mike, My wedding ring has been on my finger for over 25 years now and I’m hoping for another 25. With all the crap we go through in our days it’s a small daily reminder of why we go through it because YES, she is worth it. Well said my friend.

I’m glad you agree. Yes, she is very worth it! Thanks for stopping by!

I was just telling my students that not too many people are loyal, anymore. Unfortunately, they agreed with me! I have got to start blogging!!!! Happy Holidays!

Thanks Mil. With the kitchen all ripped apart I haven’t had the time or space for any cool homesteading type stuff, so I’m trying some other stuff out.

I can sympathize with you on the house being torn up as most of my house also in various stages of remodeling. I have blueberry bushes and grape vines that need planting but no time for outside work. It seems as though the to do list will never be complete. But getting back to the subject of your blog, the wedding ring. My husband works on locomotives, tearing them down and rebuilding/repairing. The policy is for no jewelry as it poses a safety hazard. He took it off when he first started working and resumed wearing it within a short time as he felt it was his only link to me while he was gone all day.
